Join us for a discussion with artists from the SPRAWL exhibition and an area scholar as they talk about their work and how it relates to the state of New Jersey. Painter Tim Daly, born and raised in Jersey City is fascinated with what is often unseen in the landscape surrounding Jersey City and Dahlia Elsayed paints map like landscapes of memory. Owen Kanzler from Linden, New Jersey views the landscape from an airplane documenting the housing tracts that dot New Jersey. And finally, Andrew Demirjian makes sculpture that includes video of that all too familiar experience of driving in New Jersey. Philip C. Dolce Ph.D., Chair of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department and Professor of History at Bergen Community College, will join the group to discuss race, class and ethnicity in motion pictures about suburbia.
